Yoshiaki Shibata received a master's degree in electronics from Osaka University. He joined Sony Corp. in 1991, working in the semiconductor field. In 1996, he moved to the IT R&D department where he was engaged in video over the internet. In 1998, he participated in MPEG-7 standardization activity, where he was responsible for establishing the MPEG-7 metadata schema and also worked as a project editor for ISO/IEC 15938–5. Since 2001, Shibata has been working in the business unit for broadcast and professional audiovisual products, where he has contributed to updating the UMID specification (SMPTE 330M) and the EssenceMark development. In 2002, he joined the Professional Disc format development project, where he made significant contributions to the metadata part of its development. Shibata is a member of SMPTE and the Information Processing Society of Japan.
Takumi Yoshida
bio
Takumi Yoshida joined Sony Corp. in 1990 and has consistently gained experience in the system business planning and strategy field in the broadcast industry. He was a member of the metadata study working group of ARIB (Association of Radio Industries and Businesses) in Japan from 1999 to 2000, where he served as a pioneering contributor in propagating the state-of-the-art metadata technology to Japanese broadcasters. Yoshida has been leading various inter-office projects to promote the UMID and EssenceMark implementations in Sony broadcast and professional audiovisual products.
Mitsutoshi Shinkai
bio
Mitsutoshi Shinkai received B. Eng. and M. Eng. degrees in electronic and communication engineering from Waseda University in 1974 and 1976, respectively. Since he joined Sony Corp. in 1976, he has been involved in the development of professional VTRs and video disc systems, where he played crucial roles in the metadata aspect of the system development. The formats he has contributed so far include Betacam SX, HDCAM, MPEG IMX, and XDCAM. Shinkai is now working on the development of a new IT-based video production system that enables achievement of total workflow innovation.
