John Footen has been in the media technology business for more than 25 years. His career has focused on leading-edge product development and integration. He has led numerous projects for broadcasters, studios and other media companies around the world. He is degreed in film and television production, as well as computer science from New York University. He was most recently a vice president at National TeleConsultants, and is now chief technology officer at Chime Media. Footen is a regular speaker at conferences such as SMPTE, NAB, IBC, and Digital Hollywood. He is member of the Board of Directors for the Advanced Media Workflow Association, chairs the Media Services Architecture Group, and co-chairs the joint FIMS initiative with the EBU. He is co-chair of 32NF in SMPTE. He is an inventor on several media-related patents and has led teams whose work has received technical Emmy awards. John is author of articles for publications such as the SMPTE journal and Broadcast Engineering. He is a columnist for TV Technology and the co-author of a book about the application of SOA, BPM and Web Services in media, “The Service-Oriented Media Enterprise” with Joey Faust.
