Abstract: This paper describes a light valve which is actuated from a control tape without use of intervening relays. The average change in intensity will take 10 msec, or less than one sprocket hole, when printer is running at 90 ft/min. The total maximum change obtainable is three stops which may be divided into 32 or 64 equal logarithmic increments. Flatness of field is that of a projection-type system. Light intensity is limited only by the size of lamp used.
