Abstract: There are Today two important technical limitations to the development of TV related to the broadcasting of TV signals to home viewers. The radiated waves used in TV broadcasts have essentially line-of-sight propagation; hence, many people living in canyons, near hills and mountains, and over the geographic horizon do not receive usable TV signals. Furthermore, electromagnetic waves are reflected when they impinge upon objects comparable in size to the wavelength of the propagated energy. Since the longest of the broadcast TV signal wavelengths is approximately 20 feet, it is evident that, in numerous urban areas, broadcast TV signals encounter many manmade structures which reflect and refrac them.
