Abstract: A 6,000-W xenon lamp can illuminate drive-in and indoor screens as well as or better than the conventional rotating uncoated 13.6 positive carbon trim. The bulb is operated in a horizontal rather than a vertical position, thereby eliminating the auxiliary reflector, and at the same time giving a greater light pickup angle. The only adjustments required on the lamphouse are focus, horizontal and vertical bulb adjustments. The bulb is usually burned at 140 to 150 A dc and 35 to 38 V. The bulb can, however, be burned as low as 135 A and as high as 165 A. The bulb has a 4-in spherical envelope which makes it adaptable to horizontal operation. An adjustable bar magnet mounted beneath the bulb is used to stabilize the arc flame so that it can be directed to the center of the anode, thereby eliminating flickering and wandering of the xenon arc flame.
