Abstract
Edge numbering of exposed and processed motion-picture film simplifies the editing and sound dubbing processes when working with various film stocks. Inked edge numbers, however, would not adhere properly on polyester-base films. A modification is available for conventional film-laboratory edge-numbering machines that produces a well cured, strongly bonded edge number on any film surface. The system uses a specially formulated ink that cures in 1 s after being illuminated by a pulse of ultraviolet light from a long-life xenon lamp. The prospects of greater use of polyester-base film are much enhanced by this development.
