Abstract
A motion-picture print format is proposed using a height of two perforations instead of the usual four. As an interim measure, the four-perforation pull-down is retained with two reels interlaced head to tail on one roll of film, with two soundtracks, one on each side. In contrast to a similar system patented in 1912, which used vertical anamorphosis to maintain a 1.33:1 aspect ratio, the present system uses a “flat” picture to obtain a 1.85:1 aspect ratio. This system becomes more viable today because of the use of a new auxiliary lens that can be added to the prime lens of the projector to give the required distortion-free magnification to fill the screen. Additional assistance is given to this system by new film types available for intermediates.
