- Abstract
- Because the noise contained in the output video signal from a videotape recorder is a type of modulation noise, its power increases with the amplitude of the signal to be recorded. For this reason, in measuring the chrominance noise of a VTR, it is necessary to apply a video signal with a color subcarrier of constant amplitude. A chrominance noise meter has now been developed that includes the proper test signal generator and supplies a constant-amplitude, constant-phase subcarrier in order to accurately determine the quality of the reproduced signal. The construction and operation of the meter are described, and some examples of chrominance noise values determined with this equipment for various types of VTR are presented.
