Abstract: Present television standards specify certain factors which determine the appearance of a television picture only to a limited extent. Other factors, however, such as contrast, gradation, brilliance, and the shape of the scanning spot, are fully as important. A photographic method for producing artificial television pictures which permits varying several of these factors has been developed. Pictures are shown which were obtained by this method and which approach ideal quality within a given set of standards.
