- Abstract
- A new law of contrast gradient is proposed for high definition television (HDTV) to replace the present “gamma” law, approximating to logarithmic at high picture brightness and linear at low brightness. The resulting video signal better approximates the subjective picture intensity and has up to 3 dB better resistance to spurious transmission artifacts, quantisation distortion and noise.
