Abstract
SMPTE's Working Group on Monitoring and Diagnostics in Digital Television Systems was formed to develop standards and recommended practices to aid in the analysis and maintenance of digital television systems. In the three years since it was formed, the Working Group has produced several such documents. It is the purpose of this paper to review these, to show how they interrelate to make up a comprehensive system for diagnosing and reporting the health of a serial digital television plant, and to identify areas where further work is needed.
