Abstract: A digital videodisk recorder with a net information bit rate of 94 Mbits/sec and a recording capacity of 23 Gbytes has been successfully developed. The recorder has a recording capability of 32 min for a noncompressed NTSC digital signal and can independently reproduce two, three, or four channels. Discussions are presented on the unique recording method for a constant bit-length, magneto-optical (MO) head implemented by a short-wavelength laser and on various reproducing modes that employ multiple heads.
