Abstract: Split antenna systems and paralleled transmitters are used by the Australian Post Office to improve transmission reliability. Generally the two transmitters are combined and the combined output is split again within the station building for transmission by twin feeders to the antenna system. Antenna mismatch echoes returning to the power divider and dividing at the junction are re-radiated. In certain circumstances echoes may cause enhanced ghost effects in some parts of the service area. If a hybrid-type splitting transformer is used together with quadrature phasing of the twin transmitters, the bulk of the reflected energy may be absorbed in the diplexer and splitter balancing loads.
