The Image Isocon for Low Light Level Operation

Abstract: The image isocon tube is described in detail and its features compared with those of other pickup tubes. The simplicity and reliability of the image isocon's target charge and discharge mechanism are explained. It is pointed out that modern circuit technology, coupled with new vacuum tube techniques, has made possible a camera-tube combination with minimal controls. Several illustrations of the capabilities of the isocon camera are given with some speculation as to its role in future low light level television applications.
