Abstract: As an aid to scientific research, Science Service has sponsored development and operation of microphotographic duplication, making available copies of books in libraries and science documents in two forms: (1) reduced-size photographic images upon standard 35-mm. motion picture film, called microfilms; (2) photoprint enlargements from the microfilms. Microfilms need optical aid in order to be read, whereas photoprints can be read with the unaided eye. Two services are in active operation: namely, the Bibliofilm Service in the Library of the U. S. Department of Agriculture, and the Auxiliary Publication Service in coöperation with editors of scientific journals. Application of microphotographic duplication to the important and complex problem of bibliography is suggested.
