A New Monitoring Telephone Receiver

Abstract: A high-fidelity telephone receiver having uniform response over a wide-frequency range is described. The new type of vibrating system compensates for the loss of low-frequency response due to the normal leak between the ear-cap and the ear. Uniform response is maintained at the high frequencies by employing a system of small effective mass reactance. Experimental data obtained with an “artificial ear” show the effect of the acoustic leak upon the response of various types of telephone receivers. Subjective tests are also described and data given which corroborate the tests with the artificial ear.
