Abstract: With the increasing growth of the 16-mm. sound-film industry the question of standardizing the optical reduction ratio naturally arose. With the view of studying this problem, the author was requested by the SMPE Standards Committee to organize the information available and to present it so arranged to the Standards Committee for further study. The paper undertakes the study of the problem with regard to the requirements of optical reduction and to the areas available upon the film.
