War Standards for Photographic Equipment Speed Military Instruction

Abstract: Since the projects of the ASA War Committee on Photography and Cinematography-Z52 were initiated early in December, 1943, members of the Society of Motion Picture Engineers have collaborated with the Armed Forces, the War Production Board, and the motion picture industry, in organizing technical committees to carry out these vital wartime needs. The Society was in an excellent position to make available the long experience and skill of its technical personnel, many of whom had already studied problems similar to those to be considered by the Armed Forces. Following the unanimous approval of the project by the Board of Governors, the membership of all SMPE technical committees offered their services wholeheartedly and were immediately organized into new groups to undertake the responsibility of preparing specifications for ASA War Standards. In addition to Mr. Zimmerman, Chairman of Subcommittee D, six other SMPE members serve as chairmen or vice-chairmen of Z52 subcommittees. Mr. Zimmerman's report of the completion of the principal project assigned to Subcommittee D is reprinted from Industrial Standardization.
