- Abstract
- There is a great deal of widespread interest in “video cassettes,” or — more properly — in various systems for displaying program material over television systems, particularly over individual TV sets. For the producer, the laboratory manager, the educator, the business man and the consumer, the ability to display programs over televison presents some great opportunities, as well as some problems. The advantages and limitations of the video displays are discussed, and some methods for overcoming the limitations are suggested. The role of super-8 film in the “video-cassette” field is explored, and concepts for applications are described. The concept of interchangeable software, for both video and optical projection, is discussed, and the ramifications of this concept for different applications are explored as part of a total systems approach to visual communications.
