Abstract: Experiments are reported with a simple motion detector which uses a small number of sample-and-hold circuits. The detector can readily detect motion at a particular spatial location in a television picture. By the addition of spatial filtering in the form of rectangular windows of adjustable dimensions over which the picture signal is averaged before sampling, the frequency of spurious motion indications due to noise is reduced to an insignificant level while providing for some object-selectivity on the basis of spatial frequency content.
