Abstract: A systems-approach technique has been used in an attempt to integrate color television chains. Basic circuits that are elementary building blocks have been integrated and designated as Unit Integrated Circuits (UICs). By combining these UICs, video equipment such as TV cameras, videotape recorders and other studio equipment can be designed and integrated with a resultant reduction in design cost in view of mass production. Performances required for each UIC are specified on the basis of overall transmission characteristics. Optimum specification methods by means of a probabilistic method, based on the “law of addition” and “interchange of distortions” are described. This method achieves the required performance without deterioration of picture quality.
