- Abstract
- A three-electrode cell consists of an anode, cathode, and reference electrode. The reference electrode is used to measure the potential of the cathode in an electrolytic silver recovery cell. This signal may be used to provide proportional control of the plating current using a potentiostat or may be used to turn the plating current on and off using an ORP controller. This procedure has the advantages of responding directly to conditions at the surface of the cathode and of being less susceptible to interference from thiosulfate than ion-selective electrodes. Fixer can be reused with greater reliability because chemical consumption is more consistent and the purity of the recovered silver can be improved.
