Abstract: Vertical Interval Test Signals (VITS) permit continuous quality control of television signals. Principal test signals used are the multiburst, modulated stairstep and sine-squared pulse and bar. VITS are monitored on a waveform monitor especially designed for this application. Such monitors must have a line selector and a positive-acting field selector. A number of the major design factors in the development of suitable waveform monitors are considered. While VITS provide many important measurements, there are some limitations.
