Abstract: Two novel methods provide ways of producing electronic special effects in television. By superposing suitably modulated signals on the deflection currents, e.g., on those of a TV camera, it is possible to modify the geometry of the picture and to obtain a multitude of different effects, which, for example, may be used in entertainment productions. By means of an additional modulation, the sinusoidal or pulse-shaped alterations of geometry can be moved, for instance, in the rhythm of a piece of music. By differentiating and shaping the video signal of a normal television picture, outline pictures containing only the edged structures can be produced. In order to obtain the horizontal parts of the outlines, it is necessary to differentiate in the vertical direction by means of an ultrasonic quartz delay line.
