Picture Jump and Weave in Rotating-Prism Cameras

Abstract: More unsteadiness is experienced in pictures exposed in rotating-prism high-speed cameras than in pictures exposed in intermittent movement cameras. Film dimension standards are based on conventional motion-picture experience and films perforated over the range permitted exceed tolerable limits for high-speed work. Progress to date has been based on a cooperative effort between camera and film manufacturers but has not yet advanced to the establishment of standards for this more critical film usage. Dimensional instability of photographic materials has compounded the problem. Camera motive power, design of sprockets and spools, and “greenness” of film are also cited as factors contributing to unsteadiness.
