Abstract: A system for home-use color video-tape recording, called the pilot NTSC system, has been developed. The recorder has been designed to avoid difficulties with frequency bandwidth, jitter, bulkiness and high cost of equipment. A method has been developed to fit the color signal of NTSC within the effective VTR bandwidth, recording it after frequency modulation and inverting it on the reproduction side to 3.58 MHz. A pilot signal has been used as a color standard to avoid jitter. Experimental results of the VTR are described.
