Abstract: The Photographs in this article show some of the many different film widths used since the invention of motion pictures. Also illustrated is the great variety of shapes of sprocket holes, frame areas and attempts at 3-D which inventors have deemed feasible and necessary during the past seventy-odd years. It has been difficult to ascertain why there was such a lack of standardization. Was it the result of accident, necessity or money? Or was it simply the outcome of man's attempt to circumvent another's patents?
