Abstract: Two key objectives must be kept in mind when a major relocation of a plant is undertaken: to make the move most economically and to ensure the least disturbance to production. The relocation of the Technicolor Motion Picture Division laboratory and executive offices from Hollywood to Universal City involved six phases: logistics, scheduling, preparation, execution, follow-up, and evacuation. Tasks to be managed under these headings are examined in detail. Through cooperation and attention to these six phases and using in-house labor to move everything except two computers and some heavy machine shop equipment, the move was carried off with virtually no disruption of production and this was done at a lower cost than was budgeted.
