- Abstract
- The situation in Europe in regard to electronic newsgathering (ENG) is, for a number of technical, administrative and historical reasons, rather different from that in the United States. The technical standards for the interchange of programs and signals between European states are coordinated by the European Broadcasting Union. Early in 1976 the Programme Committee of the Union formally asked the Union's Technical Committee for advice on the status of electronic newsgathering and on the uses to which the new lightweight equipment could be put. The task of preparing a detailed reply was given to one of the Working Parties of the Technical Committee, Sub-group G2, Television tape-recording (Vision and sound components), under the Chairmanship of Dr. Paulo Zaccarian of the RAI (Italian Television). In turn, the Sub-group allocated the detailed preparation of the report to an Ad-hoc Group on ENG under the Chairmanship of the author. This paper summarizes the main recommendations concerning the international exchange of news programs in Europe using ENG-type equipment.
