Abstract: The function of the Staff Department is to provide structural units and parts wherever set design requires such items. Although plaster of Paris is still the basic working material for molds, casting and lay-up, a number of synthetic materials have been added over the past years, such as vinyl hot melts for flexible molds and various thermosetting plastics. Facilities, techniques and materials in staff operations are discussed and examples given.
