Abstract: Performance criteria on video preamplifiers for use with image-orthicon and vidicon camera tubes are formulated. Recent developments in transistors have produced units having a noise figure sufficiently good and a gain-bandwidth product sufficiently high to be useful in the design of all-solid-state TV cameras. Where the best possible signal-to-noise performance is essential, vacuum tube input circuits are still superior to transistors. A hybrid tube-transistor cascode circuit offers advantages.
