Abstract: The most useful thermoplastic recording tape system consists of three parts: (1) a high-melting transparent base film coated with (2) a transparent conductor which in turn is coated with (3) a thin film of a low-melting thermoplastic. These composite tapes are described. Some of the interrelationships of the electron beam and the recording medium which establish limits on system performance are discussed. The properties required of a good recording tape are outlined and the new organic thermoplastics developed for the purpose are disclosed.
