Magnetic Recorders Improved for 70-db Signal-to-Noise Ratio

Abstract: Existing magnetic recorders and re-recorders may be improved to equal or exceed the performance of new equipment by methods reduced to practice for the first time. More than 70-db subjective signal-to-noise ratio is consistently recorded and reproduced with reduced dropouts and less distortion. Transient response is greatly improved. Recording head employs novel focused gap field and heavier bias at higher frequency. Associated circuitry uses silicon transistors for optimum performance without loss of thermal stability. Applications are discussed.
