Abstract: In order for the motion-picture industry and the general public to benefit fully from the market potential of 8mm prints in the audio-visual field, a system must be developed for mass production of magnetic sound prints at the lowest possible cost. Such a system of high efficiency requires that there be no waste operations. The proposed system, in which all operations have been optimized as much as possible with current technology, uses magnetic prestriped print film in the 35mm/super 8 format. This optimum system takes into consideration film windings, image orientation, optical and contact printing, sound, lubrication, slitting, and packaging. Film handling in terms of registration and transport is discussed.
