Problems Associated with Surveyor Television System Testing

Abstract: To insure proper TV operation, extensive system level testing is performed on the Surveyor television subsystem, to uncover any problems caused by spacecraft design, complex spacecraft/system test equipment interface or by ground equipment. Photometric errors which are partially caused by the test setup have required explanation and elimination. Correlation of test results between test phases was difficult, especially when environmental work was involved. Electrically induced troubles, such as electromagnetic interference in the launch pad environment, telemetry errors and telecommunications anomalies involved much study to initiate corrective action.
