Abstract: To determine the validity of claims that, with an increase in speed, running style changed in respect to center of gravity, forward lean, knee lift and the type of foot contact with the ground, a photographic analysis of eight subjects was performed. The film was studied using a motion analyzer and, by means of a computer program, the frames showing the foot-contact phase were plotted continuously. This method of analysis proved quite valuable in isolating the importance of the ankle joint at contact and permitted discrimination of movement at time intervals of less than 1/300 s.
