Abstract: The Canadian domestic communications satellite, Anik,* is expected to begin operation in January 1973. The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. will use Anik to obtain ready extension of its connected television networks to locations otherwise difficult to reach, for improvement of program distribution patterns for both television and radio, and refinements in network practices and technical quality. Two geostationary satellites, one for main service and one for back-up, will be orbited. With the advent of the satellite, the English and French language television networks will take the form of seven regional subnetworks in the South, with their central stations aligned roughly in an east-west direction, plus the group of remote stations in the North. A satellite link will also be utilized for radio.
