Abstract: John A. Maurer, a pioneer in the development of 16mm and 8mm sound recording and reproduction, began an active and diversified career in 1929 when he left the Graduate School of Western Reserve University to go to RCA Research Laboratory in New York. Some years later he received the honorary degree of DSc. from Western Reserve.
