Abstract: This paper addresses the need for a universal mastering format as a result of international acceptance of DTV broadcasting and the ensuing demand for content in various media. With the FCC adoption of the ATSC standard and growing acceptance of DTV internationally, dramatic changes will be seen in the post-production of programming content. Nonlinear disk-based finishing systems offer a flexible solution. Market needs, system requirements, and several possible post-production workflows are examined.
