Abstract: Current HDTV codec technology has provided the link to enable successful delivery of HDTV to the home. Similar technology is being used to help make exciting applications such as Electronic Cinema a reality. These implementations differ: so what are the considerations that need to be made. After providing a brief overview of HDTV and a standards update, this paper will focus on the implementation considerations necessary when applying current HDTV codec technology to ATSC, DVB, and Electronic Cinema.
