Abstract: The Motion Picture Research Council has announced the preparation of a resolution test chart designed primarily for the use of studio camera departments. When mounted in front of a 35mm camera lens at a distance in inches equivalent to the focal length of the lens in millimeters, its image exactly fills a standard 35mm aperture (American Standard Z22.59-1947). Resolution test figures in key positions over the field will then indicate limits of resolution directly in lines per millimeter. Other test patterns give qualitative indications of serious aberrations or other lens defects while carefully designed focus figures at the center and each corner assist in studies involving depth of focus and curvature of field.
