- Abstract
- The standards system in the U.S. con-sists of a number of standards developers, including government agencies, professional societies, trade associations, technical advisory groups, and others. Thousands of individuals, corporations, and government agencies contribute their efforts to the process of standards development. The bulk of these standards is developed as part of a voluntary system based on the principles of openness and due process leading to consensus on the content of the standard.
