- Abstract
- The TSS* processor represents a basic device for generating spatial three-dimensional (3-D) sound in theaters that already have installed one of the currently available multichannel stereo processors interfaced with digital readers and decoders for optical digital track. This article describes a prototype of a TSS processor, its basic functional blocks, its physical structure, and its technical specifications. The associated software for soundtrack editing is most important for the processor's overall performances, including the complete TSS system in a theater. Its general outline is also described.

Directivity index (DI = 10 log Q): This is the level difference in intensity along a given axis, and at a given distance, from a sound radiator compared to the intensity that would be produced at the same distance by an omnidirectional point source radiating the same power. The directivity factor (Q) is the ratio of the two intensities. EXTERNAL
