- Abstract
- Wavelet technology combines powerful new mathematical methods for representing functions with efficient software and very large scale integration (VLSI) implementations. Government and commercial evaluations have shown that wavelet-based still-image compression outperforms all other methods considered, including those based on the discrete cosine transform (DCT).
