Abstract
There has recently been renewed interest in the restoration of sound tracks for classic motion pictures. Many analog processes and techniques have been used in the past with varying degrees of success. Although digital noise-removal systems can be more effective, they are usually expensive, complex, and require considerable training to operate. Consequently, many films that could benefit from a thorough audio cleaning are not restored due to financial considerations. This paper describes a dynamically controllable broadband noise filter, based on digital signal processing (DSP) techniques, which is both simple to use and comparatively inexpensive.
