Abstract
Videotape recorders (VTRs) have been in the mainstream of recording equipment for broadcast use. However, due to the recent advances in recording technology, a rewritable videodisc recorder (VDR) using magneto-optical media has become acceptable for broadcasting. The videodisc recorder maintains a unique status as a recording system, with the distinct advantage of instant access on a noncontact recording medium. This article discussses the recording system and applications of the VDR.
