- Abstract
- In this article, an HDTV/ATV transmission standard is proposed that satisfies the needs and desires of both progressive scanning and interlaced scanning groups. The key to this proposal is separation of the production, transmission, and display formats, thus allowing multiple transmission formats. The proposed system, based on progressive scanning, will deliver better video quality to the home and will also facilitate the interface with computers and other telecommunications networks. It will also utilize existing production and display technologies based on interlaced scanning until technologies can be developed for an overall system based on progressive scanning.
