Abstract: During the past year several farreaching decisions have been adopted within the European television community; that is, the broadcasting organizations that are members of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). The most important of these was the agreement on the specifications of the C-MAC/packet system for direct broadcasting by satellite (DBS) by EBU members, which was announced by the EBU Administrative Council at its meeting in Luxembourg on July 15, 1983.
