Abstract: When digital video effects were introduced in the 1970's, the high price of units precluded their use by many facilities. Now, however, a low-cost, state-of-the-art digital effects generator is available. The low cost of this unit, the FlexiKey, was achieved by designing it to manipulate only keys and wipes. This article describes the design of the system, including the sophisticated arithmetic processing unit.
