- Abstract
- Equipment designers have attempted to raise the FM carrier frequency from lowband to highband, then to super highband, to meet increasing performance requirements imposed on the analog composite video recording system. The use of higher frequencies, however, forces the system to operate at shorter recording wavelength, with poor carrier-to-noise ratio, increased dropout activities, and higher rate of tape usage. In analog component recording, the luminance and chrominance video components are recorded on separate tracks or as two independent FM spectra on a single track, offering significant performance improvements. This article describes techniques being developed leading to hardware realization.
